What's New In the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500?
The all-new 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is available in several trim levels, including the new ATX4 and Denali Ultimate. The ATx4 enhances the ATX's off-road capabilities while also adding more features. With a rear-wheel drive, GMC increases towing capacity from 9,100 pounds to 9,400 pounds. The torque output of the 2.7-liter turbo-4 engine has increased to 430 pound-feet, up from 383 pound-feet in the previous version. The Denali Ultimate now comes standard with a new 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Plus, you can now get GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous highway driving system on the Sierra 1500.
Origin & History Of The GMC Sierra 1500
The GMC Sierra and its sibling, date all the way back to the year 1962. It was during this time period that General Motors released the first version of the truck that would later become known as the GMC Sierra. You could choose from two body styles at the time: Wideside and Fenderside. The GMC trucks were originally known during this period as 1000/K1000, 1500/K1500 and 2500. The “K” was the designation for the four-wheel drive version of the truck.
1967 marked an important year in the GMC Sierra’s history as the factory released a more modern styled version of the truck. Styling aspects were evolving to meet the growth of consumer demand for full size trucks. This evolution continued through the subsequent years and culminated with an all-new version of the GMC Sierra being released in 1988.
